Wonderful Wintery Walk

It was so nice out the other day the sun was shining and it was so warm outside I didn’t want to stay inside so I went for a walk with my daughter and our dogs. We went to a place called Zukes by locals it is a wee little island a local historical park known as Zuckerberg Island. I go there all the time its only 2 blocks from home how lucky is that ! These are some of the photos we took on an awesomely nice winter day.

January Doodles and whatnot

I have joined Effy Wilds “Book of Days” http://wildpreciouslife.com. I am easily distracted so we will see how far I go on the year long journey. And by easily distracted I mean I have lots of projects going on at the same time.This is my book of days so far or that I have pictures of I should say …. ever upload your camera and think everything was added.

This is my book so far, you can tell I am not very good at journaling in my book.
Another project, my lovely apron, it was a blue jean skirt. I opened the front of the skirt making it the back and I am using the back of the skirt for the front because it had back pockets. Anyone confused yet ?

I’m going to have to get a better picture of the apron maybe I will put it on my mannequin. There is still plenty more to do. By the way, I buy all my projects at thrift stores this skirt was $1.49 !
Doodles, ATCs and painted papers.

Sometimes I just like to add lots of pictures to catch up to what I’m doing now because I haven’t posted in such a long time. I hope I haven’t left people to confused and that you just enjoy all my awesome pictures. I will be posting more pictures soon.

Another Christmas Wintery project

I did this last year when I was having severe vision problems so there are no step by step how to pictures. I took these pictures later.

Cereal boxes cut to size for the base, scrapbooking papers, book pages, a little paint, some glitter and lots of glue.

Front page of the book

I made the houses out of book pages and scrapbooking paper. I glued them in place added a little paint and doodles. I added silver glitter for a snowy effect.

My friends and angel pages. The friends and angels are done on watercolour paper.

I think when I made these pages I was following Willowing’s free art class http://willowing.ning.com/group/theheartofart it’s awesome by the way!!

Christmas mini journal pictures and reverse collage pics

These are example of some of the pages in my mini journals. day planner pages I cut the shapes and inked the edges of some of the pages.

I used stickers, did some stamping and added doodles and glued Christmas tissues here and there .

Here are some of the papers and ephemera I used.

Tissues from dollar store.

Collected cards and printed sheets of vintage Christmas scenes

Notebook pages that I cut to shape., Recipe cards trimmed with scalloped scissors, stamped and inked. Ledger papers that I inked or sprayed ink. Lots of fun, they go together quickly and you can add your own personal messages.

A closer look at the reverse collage pages. I used the blue and green background on this one. I wont use the dark blue squares I found the picture was to dark.

This is my flower garden and I enjoyed this one so much to doodle!

And of course the first one I did with the snowflakes.

Here are some of the other things I have been crafting lately.

Glass beads. A bag of glass beads from the dollar store, some papers you like, some with words, glue I used Aleens tacky glue. Just glue them down where you like let them dry and trim. Trimming was not my favourite part.

A canvas background. Unfinished ? That's why I like mixed media you can add or not totally up to you !

More Christmas fun

I had to try this when I saw it in my CPS magazine and what fun it is and so easy to do.

You will need a firm surface for your backing I used mat board, because I have plenty. Next time I plan to use a cereal box cut to size for my backing. I found the mat board really curled and is very thick.

Next you’ll need a bunch of scrap paper, try keeping in a colour theme.

Cut the papers into random squares and rectangles and glue the to your surface being sure to overlap the papers. Leave to dry completely.

Now comes the fun part your going to need lots of Q-tips, burnt umber paint , paint brush, a damp cloth. It’s a little messy or maybe it’s just me !

Begin by painting a small area of your sheet.

While it is still wet grab a Q-tip and start removing some of the paint to create your picture.

I tried using my finger and paper towel, the area removed was not very well defined. I found that the Q-tip worked much better.

Continue working in small areas until you are finished your sheet, let it dry.

Grab yourself a white gel pen and start doodling around your design.

Mini Christmas card Journals

Today I decided to make us of some of those old unused Christmas cards. I have been mulling it over all the different things a person could do with those ole cards this is what I came up with.

You will need a selection of Christmas cards.

Assorted scrapbooking papers. I choose Christmas papers.

Open your cards and measure them cut your papers about 1/2 inch smaller then your cards. U used three pieces per card.

Gather an assortment of papers for journaling. I gathered recipe cards, notebook paper, accounting ledger paper, some fancy cut papers.

I glued some of these papers to the scrapbook paper, cutting them to fit.

And then I glued in some pieces of Christmas ephemera.

I will add some stamps, glitter, or doodads perhaps some doodles.

These can be stapled together if you have a long handle staple. I am going to poke a hole and ties some yarn or pretty ribbons to mine.

Well you just never know when things are going to come in handy. Sometimes you are attracted to something and buy it on a whim intending to use it. Often times these items just sit around waiting, collecting dust, often forgotten, lost in our mass of intended to use items.

It’s not all bad because going through your stash is like a treasure hunt sometimes. Oh that's where that went or I forgot I had that dear and treasured item … at least it was when I bought it!

Such is the case with my little I am Angel. The canvas was purchased at a Liquidation Store for about 20 cents, intention , repurposing !! It was some landscape picture that I didn’t like, I didn’t like the rough edges on it either but for 20 cents I decided it was worth it.

A few layers of gesso, not so bad.

I had already had some Angels and girls that I had painted some time ago “stuffed away for later use”. Intention already attached to them, someday maybe I’ll use them.

Next I added some papers to the background, painted, wiped away, over painted, sanded, painted again. Well you get the idea. Added a few rub-on’s.

Beautiful purple around that awful edge and here she is.

So far so good.

Who could have known so long ago when I doodled my little angels that they would have such a special purpose. Even though I didn’t draw it recently I still created the painting in the past few days and that feels amazing to me. I choose the words I am CREATIVE with purpose.

I have been on a strange journey lately. I have lost the vision in my right eye, it’s dark and difficult, a little confusing at times. May be temporary, may recover my eyesight and that was the good news, I am awaiting further tests. I have been muddling through it in my own way though. My page is at 150% I am wearing magnifying glasses these things help. I had been doing easy things like backgrounds.

A few of these too.

But I had too create….

I was restless I wanted to make something but what the heck was I going to make … thank you my hidden little treasures. She’s pretty and she’s HOPE.

Little blue tutorial repost from my other blog

This is little blue and this is my first tutorial.

I started with a simple piece of wood and I left it bare no gesso, no paint. I cut several pieces of scrapbook papers into squares, sized to fit my block of wood. Adhered them to the wood using gel medium place the side you want to see facedown. Burnish thoroughly for good contact. When it is dry, wet the paper and begin removing it by rubbing. Remove as much or little as you want. I wanted some of the wood to show, so I exposed some of it. Coat it all with gel medium to seal.

I added a piece of pattern paper and a scalloped edge piece cut from the same scrapbook paper.

Once dried, I remove the back of the paper by wetting it and rub away to expose the transfer image.

I trimmed the excess paper from edges, let it dry and added stencilled letters, letters and some paint.

Next I added another layer of transfer image. It’s a image from a magazine all shiny an glossy. I wanted it to stand out so I added a layer of gesso where my image would be and I let it dry before gluing down the image.

Remember to adhere facedown. Wet and gently rub to expose your transfer. I added some twinkling H2O paints to the butterfly image.

I had an image I liked of the little girl. But it needed something I was lucky to find some wings the right size and colour.

A little paint on the edges and here and there. I used blue and a little white and some lids to make the circles. Seal it all with gel medium, or spray varnish. All done.

It was nice to relax and enjoy the parade and visit with friends and family instead of being in the parade.

Later we spent the afternoon at the park, there were a lot of venders and activities for children to enjoy. This year they brought in a loggers show, but I was very interested in that. Finally out to the College for the fireworks show to end the days events.

These are pictures from the Trail parade, that was the first parade we did.

It was very wet and everyone was soaked by the end of the parade. But the bubbles were a big hit !!

These are from yesterdays parade not much of a turnout for participants.

Next weekend Castlegar there will be lots of people on the float and I will get to sit and enjoy the parade with my friends.

It's parade season again so far we have done 2 parades Trail Silver City Days and Kaslo May Day. It rained during the Trail parade and everyone was soaked by the end but the float was a big hit this year we have bubbles!

The Kaslo parade had better weather, I even managed to get a sunburn. So lucky I am.

This year there were new organizers, they need to be more prepared. The parade went well but the events at the park were very unorganized.

Today on my birthday,

I replied to online birthday wishes

I received phone calls from friends and family

I got flowers from a friend

I enjoyed some wonderful warm weather

Watched the crazy Stellar and Blue Jays in my backyard.

Best of all my youngest just graduated her home care course with honors. What a nice way to end the day.
